The opening statement of the "Renewed and Revised Mandatory Order COVID-19" states:

"Whereas a State of Emergency was declared in New Brunswick on March 19, 2020 due to the increased presence of COVID-19 and its risk to the health and safety of all New Brunswickers, and whereas COVID-19 remains a serious and imminent risk to health and safety;" 

The most recent data from the CDC, shows that the Infection Fatality Ratio for the following age brackets is as follows: 0-19 years: 0.003%, 20-49 years: 0.02%, 50-69 years: 0.5%, 70+ years: 5.4%. 

The Canadian Statistics show: 0-19 years: 0.0045%, 20-49 years: 0.067%, 50-69 years: 1.61%, 70+ years: 22.23%. 

According to the data available, the premise of the State of Emergency is not accurate. COVID-19 is not a serious risk to "All New Brunswickers". It is a minor health risk to everyone under the age of 70 (based on Canadian and American statistics). It is a more serious health risk to those New Brunswickers (Canadians) ages 70+ according to the data.

Voluntary measures can be adopted by those demographics who are most at risk. Enforcing compliance by those who are statistically not at risk has negative consequences on the economy, mental health, civic cohesion, and many other factors. 

The government continually changes the restrictions during the "phases" of this emergency, recently going so far as to ban singing in church and prohibit gathering with family members who do not live in your household. The reference to "new normal", "increased health and safety practices", "[required] face coverings.." is completely unnecessary and leaves the door open to permanent, imposed changes for the foreseeable future, even when the worst part of the pandemic is over.

Instead of mandatory orders, I call on the government to publish data to help individuals monitor Covid-19 and make suggestions based on the data that is obtained in order to help citizens make informed decisions. I call on Premier Blaine Higgs, Dr. Jennifer Russell, Hon. Ted Flemming, and every MLA with a conscience to revoke the Declaration of Emergency.
