Extradite Kristine Misane to Latvia!

In December 2018, Kristine Misane, a citizen of Latvia, went on a business trip through Copenhagen to Mozambique, where she owns a successful tourism business. She was detained at the border by Interpol agents, who accused her of abducting her children from South Africa, where she has never lived permanently. She faces extradition to South Africa on 20th February.

Misane's legal saga began when she met a South African man. The couple soon started arguing, initially over money, but they had a baby together. Misane and her children continued to live in Mozambique, but visited the little girl's father in South Africa. He reportedly ended the relationship after the birth of the little girl and began abusing Misane and the two children. Fearing for her children's and her own safety, Misane returned to Latvia in May 2018 with her son, from a previous relationship, and daughter.

Her children now live with a relative in Latvia, who is their legal guardian. Misane has not seen her daughter for more than a year.

Even though she has a heart condition, Misane began a hunger strike in jail in Copenhagen on February 8th to protest her possible extradition to South Africa, where she could be jailed for 15 years.
