We're all anxious to see education resuming normally - teachers, parents and society generall. But the return is being rushed. Before pressing ahead, the Government should be consulting teaching unions and parent groups to make it as safe as possible.

Examples: laying out classrooms to have enough space between pupils. Considering initially teaching in half-day shifts, with only half the pupils in each shift. Ensure plentiful sanitiser throughout the school. Ask parents to drop off their childrens 5 minutes away, so that the cars don't all crowd together outside the gates.

Not all these suggestions are necessarily right for every school. But just as the Government was slow to react to the crisis, now they seem bent on ending the lockdown before it's been properly thought through. And it won't work like that - parents will just refuse to send their children unless they feel it's as safe as possible.
