Why this petition matters

Started by Ime Umosen

Voting is one of the most important pieces to our democracy as a U.S. citizen and throughout. history this right has been uprooted from communities of color. The suppression of voting has became more subtle as now it is long lines, broken polling machines, voter I.D. laws, etc.

The late Congressman John Lewis spent 50+ years of his life fighting for causes that help communities of color, specifically the right to vote. He put his life on the line for this right when he was front line in the Marches from Selma. It's time to continue his great work and the work of so many others and get the Voting Rights Advancement Act to law.

At this time House Republicans are unwilling to accept the importance of the Voting Rights Advancement Act and it is at a standstill. It is time to ban all ways that elected officials are using discriminatory methods to stop people from voting in this country and to push the Voting Rights Advancement Act through to honor him and his lifelong work. Sign this petition to help bring awareness to this pressing issue, uphold our right to vote fairly, and for Congress to take a stand and protect our constitutional rights.
