Allow residents of the Village of Plover WI to own laying hens
Allow residents of the Village of Plover WI to own laying hens
Why this petition matters
Many residents in the Village of Plover, WI want to be able to own chickens to provide food for their families. The Village Board does not currently allow residents to own chickens.
There is a common misconception that chickens are messy, smelly, and make lots of noise. These are false accusations. Chickens are actually clean animals if cared for properly, they reduce the tick population, provide nutrient rich compost, weed gardens, act as an organic garbage disposal system, provide families with the ability to feed themselves, and generate fewer noise decibals than that of a barking dog.
There is another false belief that in order to lay eggs there needs to be a rooster present. This is inaccurate. Healthy hens will lay eggs without the presence of a rooster. Roosters are not necessary for the health of hens.
Chickens are currently allowed in all of the surrounding areas of Plover, WI. This includes the Village of Whiting, WI and the city of Stevens Point, WI.
It is unfair that residents of the Village of Plover, WI are stripped of their right to provide nutrient rich food and compost for their families. With the shortage of food so prevalent, it seems like an easy solution to allow residents to own a few laying hens to provide food for their families.
Will you join us in making chicken keeping legal in Plover, WI?
