Why this petition matters

Started by Lisa Lewis

The crossing on Manor road near the verwood scout hut is a dangerous, fast crossing.

cars travel down this road at high speeds and in greatly increased numbers over the years, the council is obviously aware of this as it is a favourite place for speed camera vans to sit,

I personally and other locals have contacted them Over the years to get the hedges cut back to make it as clear a view for crossing as possible and to fit pushchairs on the path as it seems to be a slightly neglected area even though people use it regularly.

Children of school age are seen crossing here daily on foot and bikes and are often running across in small gaps of traffic or if lucky enough a kind driver will stop and give them space to cross safely. Our children need a safer way to cross here as it is dangerous. I personally have seen very close misses or cars braking because people are trying to cross so there must be many more people witnessing this.

When events are on at potterne larger volumes of people cross here as it is a direct route from the village, people are seen waiting for a safe time to cross often relying again on a car to stop and allow them.

This area is near a gathering place for scouts, beavers, cubs and brownies, it is a crossing that would be used more and reduce congestion on these meeting days reducing the number of cars trying to get in and out of the scout car park and making it safer for them to walk if they live close enough.

This crossing would encourage more people to walk and cycle to school from the potterne end of verwood as it’s will give them a much less worrying route, encouraging a healthier lifestyle and reducing more cars.

My own family and others near me often discuss our worry’s about this area and we ourselves walk the long way around to school so that we don’t have to cross here as it is too worrying. It should be a route that is family friendly and safe, not a worry.

With enough signatures we hope the town council will see it as a worthy cause to spend money on and provide a safer crossing such as a pedestrian crossing or similar for our children and further generations in our fast expanding town.
