Right now, as a cancer patient, someone who's chronically ill, or just a regular joe on Facebook, we're bombarded with ads that make unverified medical claims that may well be breaking the law. 

In the case of a few... They literally ARE breaking them. 

As a cancer patient, I saw an ad by a company named Verita.Life. They are an alternative cancer clinic based in Mexico, Thailand and Germany who use verifiably ineffective protocols to 'treat' patients. 

Alternative treatments are shown to kill people at 2 - 5.7 x higher rates than conventional therapies. There's a reason why you're not allowed to promote them.

They're not the only ones. Not only are chronically ill people routinely targeted, I outline more, and show proof of Facebook allowing pages which are blacklisted on Google for false claims and promoting sham treatments, to advertise on their platform at www.nikhilautar.com/WTFacebook

But Verita.Life is on another level altogether. 

This is literally one of their ads (you can view their whole portfolio here). 

"Anthony Denoon received treatment at Verita Life Bangkok for his Prostate Cancer with positive results. Having run health food stores in Australia for many years, Anthony knew of Verita Life clinics and was certain that a combined approach would protect his immune system, while fighting cancer at the same time." (More examples can be seen..." 

This is an excerpt from their website, which doesn't even bother saying "may" or "could" - and just flat out lies. 

"Why choose Herbal Cancer Therapy ?
The application of herbal treatments in cancer care involves using proven plants and plant extracts to stimulate a certain type of reaction. It’s also an important note that in complementary or integrative cancer treatment, natural remedies form the building blocks of treatments.

What makes herbal therapy so progressive is that cancer cells can adapt and become resistant to many treatments and drugs. With Herbal Cancer Therapy, the focus is to bolster your body’s defenses and/or attack cancer cells by modifying the patient’s regimen based on the latest results. They offer specific responses to certain types of cancer activity, such as blocking the metabolic process in tumour cells."

Herbal therapies in general don't show any positive outcomes in the literature. Indeed, they're shown to interfere with cancer treatments' success in as many as 45% of cases. Though the remain dubious about what herbs they use, it's illegal to make medical claims about these kinds of drugs in almost every major body. 

This violates several laws. As the founder of a medical tech company and Australian Student Startup of the Year, I know this.

And right now, Facebook is making money off these ads. Let's put an end to this.
