Add an option in Cubase to remove gaps between B/C and E/F in the key editor
Add an option in Cubase to remove gaps between B/C and E/F in the key editor
Why this petition matters
Steinberg Cubase is one of the best digital audio workstations (DAW) for MIDI composition, and is used by many well-known composers to include Hans Zimmer, Benjamin Wallfisch, David Fleming and Steve Mazzaro.
All DAW applications have a piano roll feature, with Cubase's equivalent of this being called "Key Editor". However, Cubase's Key Editor has one major flaw which no other DAW has. Specifically, there is a gap between every instance of the B and C keys, likewise between every instance of E and F. On a piano, these two sets of notes are the only keys without a black key in-between, but it doesn't make logical sense to display these notes in the manner shown in Cubase. Instead, all semitones should be equidistant from one another to aid in proper visualization of the music as it is written. This serious visual flaw is more than an aesthetic quirk, and severely hampers composition workflow when creating complex parts.
Several people have complained about this issue in the past, but Steinberg has not yet addressed it and instead focus on redundant or unnessesary features during updates. As a software developer, I can say first hand that this requested fix would be trivial to implement, so we just need Steinberg to take this issue seriously.
