WA Dog Owners against DPIRD's Proposed Prong Collar & E-Collar Ban

Support your freedom to train your dog as is best for you.

All training tools have a place.

**NOTE - EDIT: Submissions and Surveys are the best way forward, this Petition is an extra but is not official. Please if you feel strongly about this cause, send a quick paragraph Headed Dog Standards and Guidelines Consultation to:

This petition is for dog owners/trainers/humans who:

- Have used a prong collar to improve their dogs quality of life (particularly through leash work);

- Have used an e-collar to improve their dogs quality of life (rehabilitation of behavioural issue/implementation of e-collar for a complete solid recall);

- Have used boundary fencing, bark collars and any spray/noise collar in order to keep their dog safe on the property, and not disturbing neighbours;

- Use these tools with their clients as part of training programs as a means of improving the welfare of everyone involved;

- Understand that these tools can be used in a safe and effective manner when used correctly, particularly as part of a training program;

- Just want to support the freedom for dog owners to train their dog as they know is best for their dog & human team.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development has released a Draft on the New Standards of Dog Welfare laws, which currently is aiming to completely ban prong collars, and HEAVILY restrict if not ban the use of e-collars, claiming they are "cruel" (users of these tools know better).

At this stage, it is only restriction for e-collars (outlined below), however the RSPCA are pushing hard for it to be a complete and total ban, so we need to submit our views against the matter.

I also encourage you to read the draft in full, submit a survey and/or a submission to the email below, which is at the link below (this is also where you can find the email for submissions) but I have copied an excerpt below.

Standards we are opposing:

"S12.2 Prong collars must not be used on a dog."

"S13.1 An electronic collar must only be used on a dog in accordance with the
generally accepted method of use. For the purposes of these Standards, the
generally accepted method of use includes:
(a) if a reasonable and documented effort has been made to use other
training techniques to modify behaviour and these have not been
effective;
(b) a veterinarian has examined the health and temperament of the dog
and reasonably believes that the dog is suitable to wear an electronic collar;"
