Residents AGAINST the 79th and Green - Peoria Street Housing Development
Why this petition matters
We, the undersigned, vigorously oppose the City of Chicago's endeavor to create a highly dense residential housing development on the 79th Street business corridor from Green Street to Peoria Street. This project seeks to create a 5 story high rise structure containing 62 apartments of varying sizes ranging from 1 bedroom to 3 bedrooms.
This project and its aims are counter to all published research on housing density for low to moderate income occupants, as well as to the nature and character of this residential community of single family and two-flat housing structures.
The residents of the impacted area have only recently been made aware of this development in as much as the area, the highest impacted by the ravages of COVID-19, was dealing with the effects of pandemic - to the distraction of being informed of this proposed development.
The impact of this development will have a deleterious effect on the quality of life for not only the long term residents of this part of the 17th Ward's Auburn Gresham community, but also for the future residents of the development, as studies have indicated pertaining to densely housing of families that face economic challenges.
