Why this petition matters

Started by Pina Wills

At the age of 14, Samori was sentenced to 92 years to life in prison for mistakes he had made in his youth. Instead of proper rehabilitation, he was thrown into the system with no chance at freedom. This was the unfortunate circumstance in which Samori  found himself in 2008 when he was sentenced to life in prison. Today, Samori, his wife and family are still battling his immensely harsh punishment to get his life back!

Samori is far more than what the system has labeled him as. This does not, and should not define him for the rest of his life by way of a life sentence. In 2008, everything happened so fast and at the young age of 14 a split decision made under pressure, led to his arrest. Samori was alone, given little to no options and was not allowed any parental guidance during his interrogation. Samori was tried as an adult at age 14 and given a life sentence, As a child, the system made the decision that he was not capable of change or reform.

Although the situation Samori was forced into wanted him to stay down, uneducated and unaware, he did the exact opposite! Samori worked hard to graduate and obtain his diploma despite all roadblocks in his way! A very talented and passionate individual, Samori fills his time during his incarceration with teaching himself several life skills. Crocheting, braiding, sewing, cooking and art in the form of words, are just some of the talents he has obtained.  He is currently working on getting his plumbing certification. Samori is a natural motivator and inspiring male figure for his peers and especially his younger family members. Family is his center and to be home with them is his ultimate goal!

This petition is being used to share Samori's story across the nation. Please join us as we move forward in our efforts to bring him home. No CHILD should be robbed of freedom and life.

Please support us in signing this petition to fulfill our ultimate goal; Freedom for Samori, help bring him home!
