Why this petition matters

Started by Stuart Chazin

Governor Walz,

We, the undersigned seek your help in preserving the integrity of the Kenilworth Corridor green space by suspending the Met Council's plan to begin cutting down trees in the corridor in the upcoming weeks for SWLRT, until full funding from the FTA is absolutely certain.

Federal funding for SWLRT is not in place. The current federal administration has refused to release funds and created an unprecedented level of uncertainty for a majority of transit projects in the queue across the entire country that would otherwise have been considered ready to go. SWLRT is one of those.  In light of the precedence-breaking nature of this administration, reliance on past custom and practice would not be wise.

Once thousands of trees are destroyed, the peace, serenity and natural beauty of this rare urban wooded area can never be restored.
