Dear Elon Musk,

An increasing number of applications offer services via the non-official Tesla API (reverse engineering), by requesting access to Tesla user accounts in order to function. It is not at all secured, but it meets a strong demand from Tesla customers.

As users, there is an obvious risk of our Tesla IDs being communicated to application developers.

We believe that the Tesla API should be made official as it frees up developers’ creativity and the applications they develop make owning a Tesla even more attractive.

At a time when other carmakers are attempting to prevent access to their vehicles’ data by all possible means, we think that Tesla should go down the reverse track and break with tradition by opening up data and services in keeping with its DNA as a technological enterprise.

Tesla drivers should then be able to securely access all the data and major functionalities of their vehicle via the applications of their choice.

Through this petition, we are asking you and Tesla to provide an official API with the same features as those offered by the Tesla mobile app, and to ensure user security by allowing a unique API key to be generated per application.
