Why this petition matters

Started by Emily Rae

I would like to have the law changed so females are entitled to a smear test from the age of 16 not 25.

The legal age in the UK is 25 when you are invited for your 1st smear test, I believe this is to old,

Cancer dosent wait for you to become of age, it doesn't care if you are sexually active, I doesn't care of it runs in your family, it doesn't care if you want children or if you are a mother, daughter ,aunt or niece,

I believe action needs to be taken as the age of cervical cancer is becoming lower, they say it is most common in woman around 35 & older yet i am living proof at 26 that this is not the case.

I was diagnosed with cervical cancer at my first smear test, I was told I was to have an emergency hysterectomy in as little as two week as the cancer had covered my cervix & the neck of my womb..

This was something that i had had for a while yet I was only just entitled to a smear test.

I originally was not at the doctor's for a smear test it just so happened my nurse offered it to me on the spot and I took the opportunity,

At just 26 years old the choice of carrying my own child is taken away from me and I am lucky to be alive,

My tumor was found at 2.2 cm and within 8 days the mass had grown to 5.5 cm,

If I was entitled to a smear test at 16 or even 18 the life-changing results I'm living with today could have been prevented,

Please join my campaign and sign my petition if not for yourselves then for for women who are entitled to have screenings for their own body I should not be restricted to wait until 25,

25 years old was almost too late for me and I would like to prevent this happening to anybody else

I am not asking for this to be compulsory I am asking for the entitlement to be an option.

Thank you,
