Why this petition matters

The Hepburn Library of Madrid is a vital and historic part of the Madrid community. The library was gifted to us by A. Barton Hepburn in 1917 and since then has provided the rural community of Madrid with great resources and free access to essential information of a wide range of topics, skills training and computing services. Our historic, two-story brick building celebrated its 100 centennial in 2017. In those 100 years many repairs, renovations and restorations have occurred. We find that it is once again time to spend time and money fixing the exterior of the building. This work includes pointing, replacing and rebuilding brick, new coping stones, caulking, repairing flashing and more.

This work is very costly, estimated at over $200,000.00. We are asking that our community help us reach out to District 48 Senator Patty Ritchie and additional State Senators. The library trustees and director have already done so. The more they hear from us, the more likely we are to get the assistance we need to keep our library standing!

Take a walk around the exterior of the building and see for yourself. We want to get this work completed immediately so that we may continue to serve our community. Without the building there is no library, no community room and place for Zumba, AA, Story Hour, free wireless internet, and so much more

Supporters who live locally can stop in to the library to sign a letter we've generated or use one of our blank templates. The library will take care of mailing them to District 48 Senator Patty Ritchie.
