Why this petition matters

Started by Community of Edgewater NJ

We request that the Borough of Edgewater New Jersey Mayor and Council work with Bergen County Freeholders to install a traffic signal at the busy intersection of River Road and Garden Place in New Jersey to keep residents safe as they cross the street.

The crosswalk is now closed and orange cones are up after an accident three weeks ago, when police say the driver of a black SUV slammed into two poles with safety signs that were installed to make the dangerous intersection safer. Carol Muscari got hit by a car trying to cross the road and spent weeks in intensive care. Human life is more precious than the cost of installation of proper traffic control devices.

Proper traffic studies are needed to determine the present effects of traffic along the entire length of River Road so that any additional improvements can be planned and implemented to keep everyone living in and visiting the community safe.

Finally, in an effort to continue towards walkability and pedestrian safety, sidewalks are desperately needed up and down both sides of River Road.
