Fix design flaw on Toyota secondary air injection check valve
Fix design flaw on Toyota secondary air injection check valve
Why this petition matters
There is a design flaw in certain models of Toyota Tundras, mine is specifically a 2007, that requires repeated repairs to the secondary air injection equipment at considerable cost to the consumer. Toyota and its service department are aware of this problem but have not done anything to resolve the issue. They leave it to the consumer to make these costly repairs, purchasing Toyota parts, upwards of $2500 or more.
The problem seems to be how the secondary injection system draws in air but allows moisture to also be drawn in thereby causing the check valves and related parts of the secondary air injection system to fail and require replacement.
I purchased the 2007 Tundra, used in 2011 with approximately 85,000. The secondary air injection system had already been fixed once previously. I had to repair again at approximately 120,000 miles and just recently in July 2019 all the indicator lights came on again at approximately 145,000 again requiring replacement of the secondary air injection check valves.
For an auto manufacturer, that I have been a supporter of for over 30 years, owning 5 Toyota vehicles, because of the quality and reliability, it is a shame that they allow this sort of problem to continue. Brand loyalty is important to me however, this repeated problem has prompted me to seriously consider purchasing a different brand of vehicle in the near future.
