Why this petition matters

Started by Lindsay Collins

The Hospitality Industry in South Carolina (and all over the world) is currently in danger of being forever changed as a result of necessary measures and closures required to slow the spread of Covid-19. Restaurants, bars, coffee shops and hotels all play a vital role in South Carolina’s Tourism Sector. In addition to the financial importance, the historic food ways of South Carolina are driven and preserved by independent restaurant owners and their employees. These employees are passionate about taking care of others and work so hard to make our towns and cities welcoming and wonderful places to live and visit. We need our local and state officials to approve emergency measures that will protect this industry which is facing unprecedented threats.

Calling for immediate emergency measures including:

rent and loan abatement for employees

eliminating payroll tax

financial bailout for product loss for operators

mortgage abatement for landlords and rent abatement for owner/ operators

The owners, chefs, bartenders, porters, distillers, food runners, servers, baristas, concierges, managers, pit-masters, brewers, hosts, sommeliers  and many more are the backbone of our community and they need your help. Please consider ways to protect them during this time of crisis, so that when we get to the other side of this pandemic, we have a city which is intact and unique.
