"Rape is a natural thing", "Girls are asking for it by wearing attractive clothes", "It happens sometimes, you cannot blame them"," You cannot clap with one hand" are the words of wisdom and education coming from the mothers, teachers and the elderly in India.
These people are often ignored being called uneducated, but what happens in the background everyday is that they go on spreading their wrong ideas into innocent minds and normalize rape.

Nobody is a born a rapist. Gender-based violence does not happen accidentally. It happens in the process of socialization that conditions a certain kind of thinking and preaches a kind of culture that normalizes rape. A culture in which rape is pervasive and normalized due to societal attitudes about gender and sexuality.
The root cause of this attitude comes from the local powers who can get away from rape in the present day and manage to suppress the voice of the victims by simply normalizing it. In many rural areas of the country, the birth of a girl child is not much to rejoice, because rape is common in the region. Girls are made to stay at home after showing signs of adolescence, discontinuing education and their freedom, hidden from the cruel world outside.
Raising a girl child is tense when the father has sexually assaulted girls in the past and the mother has been a victim or has lived in the fear of being one, her whole life.
We have seen on plenty of videos on the internet where men, women and even mothers and teachers make statements normalizing rape.
Low sex ratios, honour killing, marital rape are all interlinked to the social attitude to normalize rape.

Curbing this normalization is not the direct solution to end rape. But it sets fire to the practices/teachings that eventually lead to it.

In order to hit them with the psychology that if it's illegal, it must be wrong, laws have to be made.

In India we have the freedom of speech, not to say "Bharat ke tukde tukde" or "Rape ladki ki galti hai".
Today even lawyers can argue "Rape was the victims fault". And it must be illegal to do so.

Statements, lectures etc., made in open or closed, in communities, schools, gatherings, public articles etc., normalizing rape or any form of sexual attack must be a crime. It must be illegal to do so.
