The FSO Nabarima is tilting dangerously in Venezuelan waters, and is at risk of capsizing and spilling up to 1.3 million barrels of crude oil into the Gulf of Paria. This is 5 times the amount of the Exxon Valdez spill in 1989, one of the most environmentally damaging spills worldwide! A spill of this magnitude could have a catastrophic impact on the Caribbean region, with severe implications for wildlife, nearby habitats, human health and the economy.

The recently captured image of the listing Venezuelan-flagged vessel has been circulating throughout the news and social media alongside a message from the corporate secretary of the FFOS, Gary Aboud, urging T&T PM Keith Rowley to take immediate preventative action. Claims by the Venezuelan Ambassdor that the image was misleading propoganda further prompted members of the FFOS to obtain direct evidence, with video footage showing the severe degree of listing here. 

Despite reassurance from the T&T Government that the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, and the Ministry of National Security have been actively working on solutions, we have yet to see any detailed plan of action to address the risk posed.

The purpose of this petition is to:

1. Demonstrate public support for sending environmental aid to address the environmental risk posed by the FSO Nabarima. 

2. Call on PM Keith Rowley to address the public on this issue and outline the steps to be taken to prevent severe environmental damage with urgency.

It is time for us to take a stand and demand the protection of our natural environment!
