Why this petition matters

Started by Heidi Overwine

We, the Prince of Peace Montessori School Parents, would like to convey our concerns regarding Principal Barkley. As you are aware, we have had three principals in three years. We have had a lot of change in a small amount of time. We learned from past mistakes to collaborate with the principal. This year when Mr. Barkley came on board in August we were determined to support him and assist in any way we could.

Throughout this year, we held our tongues about the shocking, disrespectful, arrogant, erratic and unacceptable behavior displayed by Mr. Barkley. We hoped to work with him to heal and grow our community. The opposite has happened. We can provide parent complaints, emails, parent association meeting notes that support his lack of leadership and blatant disregard for the parents, staff and teachers. He lacks interest in the parents or the students. He does not attend Parent Association meetings regularly and his updates are bizarre. He is not an active participant in our school functions such as holiday parties, fundraisers and fish frys. He has repeatedly discussed plans to renovate the attic and move his office to the attic. All the while, the Parent Association is providing the salaries for a day of gym, our art teacher and an MII assistant through fundraising efforts.

He does not have the best interest of the school community in mind. He has expressed to both parents and staff that if we are not happy here, we can find another school/workplace. However, each and every one of us are happy here. We love our vibrant school. We, the students, parents and staff are not the problem.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
