I propose changing the name of 21st Street to Daniel Johnston Street (or Lane) in honor of the late, great Austin singer/songwriter, artist and cultural icon.

Daniel Johnston's art and music promoted inclusivity and love for all freaks, weirdos and outsiders and shined a light on mental illness and the hardships artists without health insurance in this town face. His early contributions to Austin in the 80's and 90's made it the place we all wanted to be. A place where people take care of and look out for each other. A place where we wave in traffic and say hi to one another on the street.

I can't think of a better person to have a street named after them in Austin, TX and 21st Street is the site of his famous Jeremiah the Frog mural. RIP, DJ.
