Transdev, the corporation hired by Fairfax County to run the Fairfax Connector bus service, fired a key union leader named Vance Young on September 21, 2020. Vance had previously advocated for safe working conditions and fair treatment during the pandemic, and the company put him under investigation for his actions. Transdev management couldn't find a sufficient justification to fire him based on their initial investigation, but the company found a different way to terminate him. Transdev scheduled compulsory meetings for Vance that took place during his regular-scheduled workday, and management did not relieve him from his bus route to attend them. Transdev claimed that he was insubordinate for missing those meetings, and they fired him. Clearly this is nothing more than retribution for his union activities.

Vance Young must be reinstated and made whole, and Transdev must be held accountable for this grossly unfair misconduct. This is only the latest in a long list of outrageous union-busting behavior exhibited by the Transdev corporation. Fairfax County must end privatization at the Fairfax Connector and get rid of Transdev altogether!
