LEAA Law Enforcement Accountability Act
LEAA Law Enforcement Accountability Act
Why this petition matters
The Law Enforcement Accountability Act is designed as an amendment to the existing Law Enforcement Act. L.E.A.A. is a comprehensive approach to hold police accountable, end racial profiling, change the culture of law enforcement, empower our communities, and rebuild trust between law enforcement and our communities by addressing systemic racism and bias to help save lives. L.E.A.A. will 1) Establish law enforcement as a profession. Along with this profession comes the accountability to maintain a professional license. This requires continuous training, data submissions and evaluations., 2) Establish a national standard for all law enforcement agencies., 3) Establish a national data base to maintain data collection on all law enforcement officers’ encounters and rate use of force. Rate all police agencies yearly, 4) Clearly define areas of misunderstanding between law enforcement officer(s) and subject(s). 5) Streamline federal law to prosecute excessive force and establish independent prosecutors for police investigations. L.E.A.A. is primarily designed to reduce citizen complaints and eliminate instances of unnecessary police force.
Rationale: Law enforcement officers have unrestrained power over the people they are charged protect and serve. We need to weed out those who wear a uniform and proudly honor their badge from those who wear a costume and are attracted to becoming bullies and are unaccountable to its citizens.
