Why this petition matters

Started by cody clark

The workers at the company Amazon wrote an open letter to Jeff Bezos, asking him and the Amazon board of directors to rise to the challenge of becoming a leader in the time of the climate crisis. Jeff Bezos has, so far, ignored this letter and done nothing in response to the workers. This petition is to support the workers in their open letter and ask amazon to adopt the following practices and policies:

1) Amazon must meet and support the demands of their workers, as outlined in their recent open letter to Jeff Bezos,
2) Amazon must cut their emissions in half by 2030, and reach zero by 2050,
3) Amazon must end any projects designed for oil and gas exploitation and drilling,
4) Amazon must focus reducing their carbon impact first and foremost in vulnerable communities, including but not limited to communities of color, indigenous communities, and low income communities,
5) Amazon must call on the federal government to endorse green policies, such as the Green New Deal,
6) Amazon must not endorse or fund candidates known for climate denial,
7) Amazon must excuse their workers from work in the case of climate change related disaster.

Amazon has the potential to be a business leader in a future affected by climate change, and until Amazon steps up to cut their emissions, provide equity to their workers, and release their amount of carbon emissions, the customers of Amazon will continue to demand that Amazon listens to their workers and steps up to meet the demands of the climate crisis.

The IPCC has said that we have less than 12 years to avoid catastrophic climate change effects. Amazon has shown the creativity and intelligence to be able to step up to the challenge of being a leader, now, they just need to act.
