Why this petition matters

Started by Helen R

Project Parker, situated off Wood Street in Walthamstow, is a self-contained ‘safe village’ supporting Walthamstow’s homeless community during the Covid-19 crisis.
Whilst not a permanent solution, Project Parker provides our homeless community with a safe, comfortable, and most importantly, private space to stay well and isolated in until a more permanent solution can be found for them by the Waltham Forest Council.

So far 17 guests have been found semi-permanent accommodation - through the council, other organisations, or having been reunited with family - but a further 29 are currently staying at Project Parker as they await allocation by the council.

As a volunteer I see first-hand how needed the Project is until a solution can be found, yet it has come to my attention that Waltham Forest Council is using ambiguous planning guidelines to try and force the shutdown of Project Parker, removing this vital provision without a viable alternative.
The goal of this petition is to allow Project Parker to continue to support the homeless community and remain open throughout Covid-19.

From my work here it is clear the pressure on the homeless is not over yet, in fact it seems to be getting worse. This is not the time to be throwing them back on the street.
Please sign the petition and show the council when we say we’re all in this together, we mean it.
