Why this petition matters

Started by https://www.facebook.com/groups/HullHeritageAG/

Hull Heritage Action Group is asking for the two mosaics which are intrinsic to, what Hull residents still think of as, the BHS building to become listed.

The external mural, 'Three Ships', has been a landmark in Hull since 1963.  It was commissioned by the Co-operative Society and designed by Wolverhampton artist Alan Boyson.  This large and iconic Italian glass mosaic mural immortalises the Hull fishing fleet. The face of the mural – which is fixed to a 66ft x 64ft concrete screen – is composed of 4224 foot square slabs, each made up of 225 tiny glass cubes.

Inside there is a huge and beautiful fish mosaic also by Alan Boyson (for a long time this this was hidden away) thankfully it was uncovered after the property became BHS.

Hull has lost so many architectural landmarks, please sign this petition. Together we will show Historic England how strongly we feel that Hull city centre needs to retain these mosaics for the future of Hull.  Please Historic England these mosaics deserve to be safe and listed!

The mosaic now has followers on Twitter too:  https://twitter.com/bhsmuralhull
