The ultimate goal of this petition is to let The Honorable Jared Polis, Governor of Colorado, know that there is a huge community of swim families that would appreciate his approval and allowance of the use of all pools for lap swimming. USA Swimming has provided numerous resources that outline how the opening of pools can be done safely, and there have been at least two good examples (Elks pool in Boulder and Blue Dolphin Swim School in Westminster) of these best practices being utilized for safe lap swimming. Additionally, the CDC says that “proper operation and maintenance (including disinfection with chlorine and bromine) of these facilities should inactivate the virus in the water”.
     I am sure I speak for more than just my family when I say that my swimmers use their training time for more than just physical fitness. The feel and the sound of the water when they swim back and forth allows them to process their lives. It let’s them be one with their thoughts, and thus being out of the water is detrimental to their mental health.  Swimming to some is essential.
     Lap swimming can be done in a controlled way that limits risks.  The signers of this petition are humbly requesting the opening of pools to individuals and swim teams for lap swimming.
