Why this petition matters

Started by John Arcoleo

The current speed limit of 40 MPH on Washington Valley Road in the area of Sunset Lake in Bridgewater New Jersey (from Hunter Road to Coriell) is too fast considering the lack of sidewalks, curbs and narrow winding limited line of sight conditions.  The police department would counter to say that 85% of the motorists can safely drive at even 45 or 50 MPH or the County can site engineering studies of similar intent of higher speeds under safe conditions. Traffic statistics in the real world tend to dispute any sense of Washington Valley Road being a safe road with 2 fatalities, almost yearly traffic accidents involving hospitalizations and a serious incident where 2 child pedestrians were hit in the last 20 years.    As a community with active lifestyle of bicycling, running and many school buses, their safety is tantamount.  Please consider to sign this petition if you feel that safety of non-motorists is most important not the ability of cars to handle Washington Valleys curves and hills.
