Why this petition matters

Started by Erick Recors

Most people know plastic straws are horrific for the Ocean. According to strawlessocean.org, over 500 million straws are used every day, and many of these end up in our oceans. Because straws are too small to be sifted on a recycler, they are tossed as garbage.  While most of these go to a landfill, littering, wind, and general human error find many of these into streams, rivers, and then ultimately our ocean.

They estimate by 2050 we will have more plastic in the ocean then we have fish. Already, 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles tested are found to have plastic in their stomachs. Once eaten, there’s a 50% chance of death.

Oregon is a progressive state, we should be leading the way on banning single use plastics of all kinds. Help us start something that can lead to bigger and better change, every vote counts! We will take this to Governor Brown, who should be able to make something happen.
