It is clear that attitudes toward cannabis use are changing in the UK.

It is now (theoretically) legal to prescribe cannabinoid drugs for certain conditions, though these prescriptions are still few and far between.

Health food shops, supermarkets and even local convenience stores are stocking CBD products on their shelves.

Yet the government persists with prohibition which fuels crime and causes more harm than good.

I propose that if we are not yet ready for the total decriminalisation/legalisation approach that more forward thinking countries are adopting, then a good start would be to allow each household to grow a limited number of cannabis plants for personal consumption. I'm sure this would make a serious impact upon the criminal gangs that use slave labour in their cannabis farms and would remove the necessity for many users to associate with dealers and potentially come into contact with harder drugs.

Furthermore, those with a condition which is alleviated by cannabis could grow their own medication without fear of criminalisation and without the exorbitant costs of private prescriptions .

Allowing a user to become self sufficient in this way can only have a positive effect for society.
