Why this petition matters

Started by Rachel Lamb

The Neshaminy team name and mascot debate has been affecting our community for many years. Over $500,000 has been spent to keep the racist redsk*n name whose origin comes from the skinning and selling of Native Americans’ bloody skins. This name does not honor the people who used to live in our area, and using the name with “pride” is impossible. The School Board and District have spent years sweeping this issue under the rug, with debates spreading across the community. However, enough of us are ready to change this name. We are angry and ashamed to be going to a school that supports racism and sees no issue. We are ashamed to be attending a school that spends its money avoiding lawsuits rather than fixing the damage that has been done. It’s time we apologize. With the upcoming school year full of unknowns, this would be the best time to change the name. No spectators at sporting events, a possibility of complete online school, it makes sense to change the name now. It should’ve been done years ago, and honestly it shouldn’t have ever existed. It shouldn’t take an NFL team changing their name to convince us to change ours. I think enough of us are fed up that we can make this happen. So, please sign and I’m sure we all can make a difference! Thank you!
