BMW's M division have produced some of the finest automobiles to ever grace the roads. The likes of the legendary E36 M1, E46 M3 CSL and the E9 3.0 CSL have all come to being thanks to them. And their 50th Birthday is not far away. For this, BMW M are planning something special. Something to act as a hommage to all of their greatest cars. However, recent speculation suggests that this car will not be anything like that. BMW M are currently thinking of producing something that will not be in any way special. The car they want to produce to represent their illustrious history is called the iM2. The iM2 will be an electric hypercar with over 1300bhp, based on the M's current M2 Sports Car. Heavily developed and highly realistic simulations are predicting that the iM2 will be able to lap the daunting Nurburgring race track in a blistering 6 minutes and 50 seconds which would make it the 5th fastest car ever to lap the track. So why am I so upset about it coming to existence? Well, firstly, the iM2 is meant to be special. Given the vast amounts of electric hypercars that are being unveiled each week with significantly more power and superior performance figures to the iM2, it certainly wouldn't be special there. And as most enthusiasts understand it, BMW M have always been soulful cars, putting the driver first to make sure they feel engaged at the wheel and not necessarily just big numbers. Electric cars are certainly not engaging, they feel distant and unconnected, exactly what M stand for. And if you talk about environmental issues then your point is invalid as electric cars are still severely lacking in that department. So do you still think it is smart to mark BMW M's illustrious 50 year history with a car that isn't special and doesn't represent what it is about? I suggest that they make a true successor to the car that started it all, the 3.0 CSL. A car powered by an engine and also one involving enough to truly be an M car of the ages. That's how they should mark such an important milestone, as nothing would be more special than that. So as M care about the enthusiasts, and that's what we are, let's  voice our opinion and get the change we truly deserve.
