Pool Openings and Startups Should be considered essential
Why this petition matters
Now More than ever, we need our families to remain healthy and have a strong immune systems. Exercise and outdoor exposure has been scientifically proven to promote a healthy immune system. Now that our families are required to stay at home to prevent the spread of covid-19, having a healthy and sanitized swimming pool will promote staying home and exercising. Having an unopened mosquito swamp will deter anytype of backyard activities, and pose a serious health risk.
Currently Under New York Executive Order 202, Swimming Pool and Spa Maintenance has been designated as essential business and can continue operating. However Swimming Pool/Spa OPENINGS And STARTUPS have been deemed NON ESSENTIAL and prohibited by the executive order.
PLEASE SIGN PETITION TO HAVE SWIMMING POOL/SPA OPENINGS AND STARTUPS CONSIDERED ESSENTIAL!
There are several reasons why this designation should be considered essential for the health and safety of the people of NEW YORK.
New York Executive Order 202 Currently allows
Essential services including: landscaping, but only for maintenance or pest control,
Essential services necessary to maintain the safety, sanitation and essential operations of residences, general maintenance whether employed by the entity directly or a vendor, disinfection.
POOL and SPA OPENINGS ARE ESSENTIAL FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS
Open, Untreated Water Is Unsafe - Once tempature are above 60 degrees pools become mosquito havens. Untreated, unfiltered and uncirculated bodies of water allow for the growth and development of a variety of pathogens, bacteria, as well as mosquito and other insect activity. Residential and outdoor recreational pools should still be maintained at least to a minimum standard. West Nile, Zika and other diseases that have been a problem over the years could reappear at a time when we are already in the middle of public health crisis and the healthcare system is over loaded.
If water is not properly maintained, a swimming pool or spa can become a health risk for the homeowner as well as the public at large. Consistent management of water chemistry and sanitation is essential. During the current public health crisis with COVID-19, it is important to continue to be vigilant with water sanitation to minimize the risk of additional public health concerns.
CDC Supports Good Sanitation Prevents Disease Spread
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) continues to report that there is no evidence that COVID- 19 can be spread to humans using pools and hot tubs. Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection (e.g., with chlorine and bromine) of pools and hot tubs should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19. If people are going to use their pools, it is essential that they are professionally opened, maintained properly, circulated and filtered.
