Along with the Friends of the Schenectady County Public Library, we urge the Schenectady County Manager to reopen the Karen B. Johnson Central Library. Keeping the largest, most centrally located SCPL library closed severely impacts the hundreds of people in downtown Schenectady without access to public transportation. Additionally, it deprives the public of its vast collection of books, DVDs, CDs and more. 

While we acknowledge the reopening of five branch libraries is a positive step, we urge the County to extend that decision to the KBJ Library as soon as possible.

During this time of crisis, it is more important than ever that the citizens of Schenectady County regain access to the library. Furthermore, with schools undergoing massive challenges to instruction and limitations on what they can provide, it is even more imperative that the libraries be open to fill the void.
