Improve the Equity and Quality of Supportive Housing for the Mentally Ill
Why this petition matters
There are over 11 million adults in this country suffering from severe mental illness, like schizophrenia and other psychotic brain diseases. Approximately half of them do not have sufficient treatment programs, access to care, or a stable home. They can be found on the streets, in prisons, and in the homes of loved ones desperately trying to find a way to help them. I am one of those millions of parents. Supportive housing is supposed to provide stable homes, job training and treatment assistance, but it is few and far between. Far worse, there is no system of monitoring these facilities to ensure safe and efficient care for these individuals at-risk to be victimized or to commit crimes in their psychosis. With treatment, therapy and stability they can lead lives as participating members of our communities, but we need your help. We need to develop many more supported housing facilities across the country, and create a systems of standards and measures to assure the quality of these facilities and their services. Please show your support for this effort by signing this petition and contact us to participate.
