Why this petition matters

Started by Rebecca Morgan

Plympton St Maurice is a small conservation village located on the outskirts of Plymouth in South Devon. An ancient borough and stannary town with a history dating back to 1155. It is a beautiful place & is being used as a rat run for large vehicles to gain access to the new building site Sherford as well as quick access to Plymstock. The infrastructure simply cannot support the influx of traffic/HGV vehicles.

Plympton St Maurice Church which can be dated back to 1070-1090 is currently paying the price for these "shortcuts" and HGVs which are all over the 7.5t limit. The church wall alone has been damaged three times in less than a week. The road following around this historical church was designed for horse and cart. Sadly the council have given the local bus services permission to drive down this road despite the restrictions in place being 7.5t. This is without the added help from the lorries driving through to Sherford.

Please sign this petition and show your support for one of the few historical conservation areas left in Plymouth. We must preserve the local history so we can pass it along for future generations to enjoy. I am starting this petition with the intent for the restrictions be to be lowered by Plymouth City Council & Highways to 3.5t through George Lane, Longbrook Street and Fore Street.
