Why this petition matters

Started by Siobhain O Hanlon

I and many others have ran a play street for a number of years in the borough of Croydon. Play Street is an event where the street is closed to enable children to play safely in THEIR OWN STREETS without the fear of traffic.

To date, this was free. However, Croydon Council have now introduced a £195 charge.

Please sign this petition to demonstrate your opposition to the recent charges that Croydon Council are imposing against children playing in the street safely.

If we get enough signatures we can convince them that this is unacceptable. This fee will lead to the end of the children's free play. Free play is valued by many families. It is a simple but important pleasure, which opens up the community and encourages neighbourhoods to come together. It also assists and contributes to positive mental health for parents and children.

We have been locked in for so long and we are excited to start this event again, but this charge is a prohibitive, disproportionate and unnecessary, particularly in circumstances where we already pay Council Tax.

This is a petition for children and free play.  Please sign. Thank you for your support.
