Make them Count:Missing and Murdered Indigenious Women
Why this petition matters
Help us shed light on a significant issue impacting Indigenous Women. Every year Indigenous Women go missing and/or are murdered. In fact, research has shown that murder is the third leading cause of death among Indigenous Women. In addition, Indigenous Women are murdered at 10x the national average. Statistics show more than 4 in 5 Indigenous Women have experienced violence, and more than 1 in 2 have experienced sexual violence. Lack of proper police enforcement has caused a large number of cases to be underreported and wrongfully dismissed. Families are being damaged without proper justice and support in finding their missing and/or murdered loved ones. It’s time to break the silence over this topic and help Indigenous Women. We can act by passing Savanna's Act. Savanna's Act will require the Department of Justice to update the online data entry format for federal databases to cases regarding missing and murdered Indigenous Women! In this way, we will be able to give proper identification to all Indigenous missing and murdered women and will be able to track these cases in order to offer adequate answers. Please help by signing the petition!
