Why this petition matters

Started by Mark Seychell

For the past year, Squidge Rugby (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCu2oaGQ6Dds6g9lqfexUFbQ has dedicated his time to creating videos about a sport he is passionate about. As one can see, the nature of these videos is to educate rugby supporters and those new to rugby alike through in-depth tactical analysis with an amusing twist. This covers both team play as well as individual play in order to enlighten fans about one of the most complex, and yet beautiful sports. More than that, due to his style and delivery, Squidge Rugby has no doubt increased the audience and fan base of Rugby Union, and this is something which many of us have seen with our own eyes. Some of his videos have even reached 145,000 thousand views on YouTube, and one which was (also wrongly) removed for copyright 500,000 views. These numbers are unprecedented in the world of Rugby Union and serve as a testament to how much people Squidge Rugby is reaching.

In order to be able to substantiate his analysis, and give the audience a visual medium to ease their understand and knowledge of the game and the tactics used, Squidge Rugby uses very short clips of matches, lasting a few seconds at most.

On Saturday 17th August 2019, Six Nations Rugby, the governing body of the Six Nations Championship lodged 5 strikes on copyright grounds against Squidge Rugby via YouTube. Unless these strikes are overturned, the Squidge Rugby will be deleted, which will deny current and prospective supporters of the chance to be able to understand the intrinsic tactics which go into a match of rugby. Moreover, the sport as a whole will suffer due to the fact that prospective supporters will be denied of this fantastic advert for the game of Rugby Union.

As such, this petition has been launch in order to:

A. Get Six Nations Rugby to withdraw their strikes against Squidge Rugby.

B. Get Six Nations Rugby to recognise the educational value of Squidge Rugby to not only their own competition but Rugby Union as a whole.
