During the Olympic Games, horses are used against their will in competitive sports such as Dressage, Eventing, or Show Jumping.

In order for the horses to participate to the competitions in the host country, they first need to fly long distances. Air travel is simply stressful for animals, let alone being placed in an aircraft cargo hold,  locked in a cage for dozen of hours.

The heat during the summer, and the shouts of Olympics spectstors, are among other factors of stress that can affect well-being of the horses, and some could even die of it. 

It's also very common for the horses to get injured during the competitions. When severly injured, the horse is often euthanized, even when rehabilitation or medical care would still be an option. This happened during 2020 Tokyo Olympics on August 1st, 2021, when a horse named Jet Set was euthanized after a ligament injury during the Equestrian Cross-Country competition.

While it is certainly hard to imagine a similar decision taken for a human, that is sadly the cruel fate that awaits horses in such circumstances. This is mostly because of the cost and time it would take to rehabilitate an horse in order to compete again, and because it simply wouldn’t be worth it.

During Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics:
・On August 1st 2021, a 14-year-old horse named Jet Set ridden by Swiss’ Robin Godel was euthanized following a ligament injury during the Equestrian Cross-Country competition, while he could have been saved and offered adequate medical care or rehabilitation.

・On August 4th 2021, Kilkenny, a 9-year-old horse ridden by Ireland’s Cian O’Connor, suffers severe nosebleed during Olympics Individual Final. The images are distressing to see, as the blood —clearly visible for all viewers, judges and rider to easily spot— keeps spewing from his nostrils. Nothing is done to immediately stop the race or even to check the horse’s condition.

・On August 7th 2021, during Modern Pentathlon competion, the coach of Germany team punches several times a horse out of anger as he refuses to jump, and urges rider Annika Schleu to "really hit" him. Soon after, the rider —in tears as she still fails to control the horse and her hopes of a medal fades away— is seen slapping and kicking the horse’s flank. Similar slapping scenes have been spotted during Show Jumping competition, for example when horse USA De Liverland ridden by Morocco’s Ali Ahrach refused to jump.

Aren't the Olympics Games supposed to represent values of friendship, care, tolerance, solidarity and mutual understanding, while promoting a peaceful society Do you consider it is sport to put an animal life in danger?

オリンピックで行われる種目、馬術（馬場馬術、総合馬術、障害馬術、近代五輪での馬術）をオリンピック種目から外してください。開催国へまでは飛行機で長距離を移動、暑さ、観客の大きな声援は馬にストレスを与えます。

また、怪我をした選手（馬）は殺されます。2021年8月1日の2020東京オリンピックでは非常に残念なことに、スイスのJet Set選手が総合馬術2日目のクロスカントリーの競技中に着地で足を怪我してしまい、安楽死されることになりました。人間の選手だったら、治療しリハビリを行うのになぜ馬なら殺すのでしょうか。競技ができなくなった馬の治療やリハビリの費用がかかるからでしょうか。

怪我をした馬を国へ連れて帰るのはリスクが高いという意見もありました。そもそも、オリンピックでこの競技を行わなければこのような事故は防げたはずです。オリンピック委員会に、選手が殺されたという事実について再度真剣に考え直していただきたいと思います。

2021年8月4日の障害馬術個人では、アイルランドの馬のKilkenny選手は鼻から血が出ていたにもかかわらず、競技を続けていました。

2021年8月6日の近代五種女子の馬術競技中、ドイツのアニカ・シュロイ（Annika Schleu）のコーチ、キム・ライスナー（Kim Raisner）が拳で馬のSaint Boy選手を殴ったとして、大会から追放されました。馬を利用し搾取するだけでなく、虐待まで。そちらに関する署名も立ち上がっています。

このようなことを繰り返さないためにも、オリンピックで今後馬を利用したスポーツの禁止を求めます。

「6　オリンピック・ムーブメントの目的は、いかなる差別をも伴うことなく、友情、連帯、フェアプレーの精神をもって相互に理解しあうオリンピック精神に基づいて行なわれるスポーツを通して青少年を教育することにより、平和でよりよい世界をつくることに貢献することにある。」

スポーツでの馬利用は、オリンピック憲章に当てはまりません。平和でよりより世界をつくることが目的なら、オリンピックで選手を殺すこと、虐待することは当てはまりません。また、いかなる差別をも伴うことなくとおっしゃるなら、人間が怪我をした場合は殺さず、馬が怪我をした場合は殺すということは「種差別」にあたります。
