Why this petition matters

Started by Joyce Grant

Shandaken NY located in the Central Catskills of NY State, along State Rt. 28 is in a Cellular DEAD Zone. On either side of our town, there are Verizon Wireless Cell Towers. Shandaken is the ONLY town along the Route 28 Corridor in the Catskills without cellular service with interrupted service for 17 miles for all travelers including the 160,000 annual visitors to the State-Owned Belleayre Mountain Ski Center.

Our citizens are vulnerable & highly at risk, especially during extended electrical outages. The state has designated the Route 28 Corridor as a Critical Corridor, especially during natural disasters. Residents, businesses and visitors in the Town should not be denied the same access and services that are readily available across NYS.

The NYS Public Service Commission has the regulatory authority to demand that Verizon Wireless act, if it fails to do so. Public pressure is needed to help raise awareness and enable the NYS Public Service Commission to act.

Please sign this petition to the Public Service Commission - asking to force Verizon Wireless to continue their network from Boiceville NY to Margaretville NY - and to continue through Shandaken NY,  for the safety of our residents and visitors.
