INTERPELLATION

This is a civic interpellation regarding the unhindered access to the Sejm of the Republic of Poland.

Dear Madam Marshal,

When accepting the office of the second most important person in the country you announced a new quality in its functioning. Meanwhile, despite numerous declarations, you did not open the Sejm’s gates to all Poles, and the citizens trying to enter the premises of their own Parliament are persecuted.

We therefore ask the Members of Parliament if they forgot to whom they owe their seats? You sit in the Sejm thanks to us, your fellow citizens, who have the right to observe the work of their representatives. Slamming the door shut to all voters is an obvious sign of disregard and lack of respect. We interpret surrounding the Sejm with barriers as a physical and symbolic act of MPs breaking their link to us.

We demand restoring of the Sejm to the citizens! It is a right guaranteed under the Constitution, where Article 4 shows that Sejm and Senat, being symbols of democracy and a common good, should not be cordoned off from the nation. Not only metaphorically but - in this instance - literally.
