The Tucker and Bradbury Memorials Belong at Pretzel Field
The Tucker and Bradbury Memorials Belong at Pretzel Field
Why this petition matters
A shooting incident in Cedarville, Illinois on February 3, 2019 took the lives of two former Freeport high school athletes who completed one of the greatest plays in Freeport sports history. Shaun Bradbury and Kyle Tucker. Both fathers, husbands, sons, beloved friends, and revered community members.
It was October 6, 2000. Freeport hosted Boylan. Both teams were 6-0. The game was basically for the Northern Illinois Conference Championship.
With 8.9 seconds to play Boylan led 20-16. Freeport was on the Boylan 26 yard line. On third down Freeport quarterback Nate Cummins threw for the end zone and Bradbury made a diving catch for the game-winning touchdown. He was immediately mobbed by his teammates, including Tucker.
The Freeport School Board is considering removing two memorials placed, at the end of the field, that have been up for five months. These memorials were part of a fundraising effort by their former classmates. Tucker has a daughter that attends the high school and one other that attends Freeport public schools. Bradbury has two daughters also in the district.
The signers of this petition are asking the school board to leave up the memorials indefinitely to show support of the victim's families, honor their contribution to FHS football sports history, and show a community coming together in a time of a great and senseless loss standing united against this violent crime.
The loss of Kyle Tucker and Shaun Bradbury is a great loss to the entire community.
