Why this petition matters

Started by Ka’apuni Eason

Petitioning to have the two main monuments of Captain James Cook Removed immediately from the following Hawaiian island sites due to his negative impact on the Hawaiian Islands and many other nations around the world:

Site #1: Hofgaard Park, Kaumuaii Highway, Waimea, Kauai Island - main statue

Site #2: Kealakekua Bay, Hawaii Island - 27’ White Obelisk Tower.

Reason(s):

From January 18, 1778 to March 31, 1779 Captain James Cook and his crew of the HMS Resolution and HMS Discovery committed the   following stated crimes but not limited to crimes stated against the Hawaiian people:

- Murder

- Manslaughter

- Assault & Battery

- Kidnapping

- Theft

- Treason

- Arson

- Introduction to venereal diseases in which depleted population over time due to no available cure.

These monuments are a disrespectful display towards the Hawaiian people and many other nations around the world. Many nations like Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia have all reported similar complaints about monuments of Captain James Cook due his negative impacts on their lands as well.

We humbly ask for our Leaders of Hawaii to take action and do what is right! Take down these monuments immediately! Do what is right for the people of Hawaii!

As we watch many other colonial and  confederate monuments around the world go down let’s make that change too! Let’s be apart of the Greater Good!
