Education Reform on Sexual Assault, Sexual Harassment, and Rape at FUHSD
Education Reform on Sexual Assault, Sexual Harassment, and Rape at FUHSD
Why this petition matters
Within the past few weeks, in light of the “Not All Men But Most Women” movement, countless narratives concerning sexual harassment, sexual assault, and rape have been shared by a multitude of students within the Fremont Union High School District. This hasn’t only been prevalent within FUHSD, but also within other school districts within the United States as well.
These accounts are a few of the innumerable experiences that have been publicized. It has become evident that schools within FUHSD are not fostering a safe environment in which students feel comfortable speaking out regarding their accounts and are not adequately educating their students concerning what specifically qualifies as sexual assault, sexual harassment, and rape (Not limited to the listed).
Further, the SA/SH/Rape education (e.g., modules & webinars) taught in schools are very black and white. SA/SH/Rape does not only happen at a party when the individuals involved are intoxicated. No one has to physically blackout as a result of being under the influence. SA/SH/Rape can happen anywhere. It can happen in broad daylight- even on a school campus.
In order for schools within FUHSD to become a safe environment for all current and succeeding students, FUHSD should take the initiative to implement an education reform on Sexual Harassment, Sexual Assault, and Rape. We need change now.
