The childhood home of Blanche and Cabell Calloway is a valuable asset. Black History was made there.  It is urgently at risk of being demolished, though officials have stated that it can be revitalized. The city of Baltimore should use this opportunity to protect an important part of it’s great historic heritage and use it to help the people of the community in which it is located. This home represents a story of female empowerment in a male-dominated world, a story of groundbreaking musicianship, a story of a sister and brother from Baltimore whose lives helped to change the world for the better. The preservation of this historical landmark and it’s significance is in danger of being lost to history. 

What happens to people who lose their history?  Why did Baltimore already demolish the homes of all its other African-American stars like Billie Holiday, Chick Webb, Eubie Blake, Lillie Carrol Jackson, and the Royal Theater and other important theaters that used to be on Pennsylvania Avenue?  These historic, now gone, landmarks, were just around the corner from Cab and Blanche’s home. 

If this neighborhood and the city knew that these incredible stars were their neighbors, it would inspire them to be proud of the history that exists around them. A valuable history that could be used to enrich and empower this neighborhood.

Please help us stop this demolition from happening.

Blanche and Cab Calloway’s story should be told through this home on this historic African American block, as well as the other locations of their trailblazing steps in Baltimore recognized. We are asking for the support of Baltimore and the world community to please join our efforts to keep their memory alive in Baltimore. We have to do what we can together to help one another and make our history come alive to inspire a better tomorrow.
