Why this petition matters

Started by Stacey Drake

Hello, my name is Stacey and I’m a mum to an 10 year old boy who was born with a Rare Genetic Defect and Multi Complex needs. Since becoming a mum to a disabled child I have noticed the lack of equipment in play parks around the uk to include all.

I think everyone would agree all children regardless of their needs should benefit from having as much equal opportunity to play alongside, explore with peers in an outdoor environment. This benefits all, helps to establish an inclusive community and helps to educate all children to accept peers that may be different. In our current situation with covid 19, the fresh air and being outdoors has been proven to improve mental well-being.

From already putting the feelers out to families that are in a similar situation to us, their replies have been that equipment which is wheelchair friendly eg: swings, roundabouts, floor level trampolines, sensory equipment/gardens would help to enhance the chance for a family outing where siblings can play alongside.

Safe and practical equipment could be added to already established parks in and around the UK if we can get the support of the local councils . I would love to think that one day my son and his sister would be able to play together on a day out. This small achievable change would make all the difference to a family outing for lots of families.
