Stop the construction of a commercial warehouse in the residential community of McKinnons
Why this petition matters
Whereas we, Gothel and Joycelin Williams constructed a residential property at McKinnons, Block No 45 1695B , Parcel No 291, St John's, Antigua and have resided at said property for twenty (20) years; and whereas having witnessed on the 20th December, 2019, the erection of a massive steel frame less than one (1) foot away from our fence on the western side of our property:
We have attempted to speak with the persons at the site who are Chinese, in an effort to get the name of the owner, but they claim not to be able to speak or understand English.
We have complained to the Development Control Authority (DCA), and have spoken with several officers including Mr. Fredrick Southwell, Mr Cochrane and Mr Jarvis and the DCA personnel came to the site, but we were told that persons can build whatever they wish to on their land, as there are no restrictive covenants in that area, and they had received DCA's approval.
We complained about the potential devaluation of our and other properties in the immediate environs, as having a warehouse in a largely residential community, will not only attract rodents, but will obscure our view, negatively impact air circulation and the aesthetics of community and drastically reduce our quality of life. Additionally, the wall structure has blocked the natural drainage of water and we are now experiencing flooding on our property after heavy rain.
Whereas having been advised by legal counsel that a petition to prevent the owner/s from continuing the project would strengthen our case, We hereby solicit your cooperation in the form of your signature on this petition which would indicate your support for a stop order to be placed on this project and removal of this structure in the residential community of McKinnons, St John's.
We the signatories support this petition.
