Why this petition matters

Started by Carol Paczensky

So 1% is the proposed pay increase for NHS staff following the global pandemic that has seen staff put their own lives, and the lives of their families, at risk to provide care for patients with Covid-19. Staff have worked extremely hard, without complaint, many unable to take annual leave. Staff have themselves suffered stress, anxiety, depression and exhaustion due to high work demands and staff sickness (because of Covid). Some are suffering from PTSD.

So Government please, if you are unable to reward NHS staff with the pay rise they deserve, then offer something alongside this, what many consider to be, offensive pay rise.

Provide free public transport to NHS staff and care workers to help them save money on the expense of travelling to work to provide the care they give. Metropolitan Police have the privilege of free bus travel, now is the time to extend this to NHS staff who have been putting their lives at risk during the course of this pandemic.

If you can’t offer the pay rise they deserve, then help them in other ways within your remit which will be less costly for the Government. Transport fares have just been increased by more than 1%, effectively meaning that after the proposed pay rise, they will be earning less money. Do you think this is fair?

Show your gratitude to NHS staff not just by clapping for them, but by providing transport services to them for free, so they will effectively get the pay rise they well deserve.
